1. DRINK WATER.
This is probably the easiest, yet most effective beauty tip of all time. We're always told to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, to benefit all the different parts of the human body, and I highly recommend doing so. I know it is very easy to forget, but if your body doesn't get enough water, your skin can get dry, flakey, tight and even wrinkly! Water also increases our energy levels and flushes out toxins in the body. Also, sometimes our brain confuses thirst with hunger, so before you eat have a glass of water to cut down on excessive food intake.
2. BEAUTY SLEEP.
Sleep is so important. I always make sure that I get my 8-9 hours every night, which means that I am roughly in bed around 9;30-10;00 every night. I work 9-5 Monday through Friday as an intern in a solicitors office so it is vital that I get enough shut eye at night so that I can function. Sleep is really important when it comes to looking and feeling well. Your skin and your body renew and repair itself while you sleep at night.
3. HAVE A SKINCARE ROUTINE.
Having a skincare routine is also very important. First thing that I do in the morning is cleanse, tone and moisturize my face in the shower and it is the last thing that I do at night. Everybody's skin is different & when you are buying your skincare products it is so important that you know your skin in order to get the right products for it to suit your skins needs. If you are unsure about your skin type or how to go about finding it, read my in depth explanation here.
4. MOISTURIZE.
We are told that we should moisturise out whole body everyday. Skipping this beauty step is the one that I am most guilty of, but I definitely make an effort to do it at least twice a week and afterwards I wonder why don't I do it everyday I feel so good. I wear fake tan on a daily basis so moisturising over this can be a bit of a pain and a bit of extra effort that I sometimes just don't have energy to do, but I love the feeling of being moisturized head to toe, smelling gorgeous and getting into my fluffy pjs! That said however, I do make a conscious effort to use a self tanner that is actually a moisturizer quite often. My favorites are the Cocoa Brown Gentle Bronze, and the Dove gradual tanner. I use these when my skin looks and feels a bit dry but yet I still want to look tanned.
Dry, flakey lips are just not a good look. Especially with lipstick on top of it, this just emphasises the whole problem. I religiously load the lip balm on at night before bed in order to combat this. I wear lipstick everyday to work, usually a matte lipstick and this can be very drying on my poor lips. I don't wear lip balm during the day unless I'm not wearing any makeup, but I love wearing it at night; that way when I wake up in the morning my lips feel lovely and plump & moisturised.
6. ALWAYS USE EYE CREAM.
If you wear a good bit of eye makeup, like me, then it is essential that you use an eye cream. Well, even if you don't wear makeup or eye makeup, an eye cream is pretty vital anyways. Day to day life can be quite drying on our delicate eye area and sometimes the area can get quite dry, which in turn highlights fine lines and increases the chance of pre mature wrinkles. Using an eye cream helps to combat this dryness and really give your eye area a burst of nutrients which will make the skin look it's best! I am absolutely loving my BareMinerals eye cream at the moment, I use it day and night as I feel like it makes me eyes look more awake and brighter while also hydrating my delicate skin; and at night I feel like it just refills this area with any nutrients and oils that it had been stripped of while wearing makeup. I just think it makes the whole eye area look and feel so much better!
7. EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE.
I cannot emphasise how important this step is. You should exfoliate your whole body at least once or twice a week. Exfoliating benefits us in so many ways it is just a beauty tip not to be skipped!
1. It removes dead skin cells and dirt from the top layer of our skin.
2. Removing this dull layer of dead skin cells exposes the luminous fresh and bright skin beneath.
3. Exfoliating thoroughly can unclog pores and decrease the chances of blackheads.
4. Exfoliating your skin in circular motions can improve circulation & help fight cellulite.
5. Makes your skin feel devinely soft.
8. USE A FACEMASK AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK.
This one kind of ties in with having a skin care routine, yet it is such a useful and essential tool in looking after your skin and helping it look it's best that I felt it was best to mention it seperately. I religiously use a facemask at least once a week (usually on a Wednesday and a Sunday) I feel like it just gives my skin and extra boost mid week if I'm very tired and it's showing on my face. I love a good clay mask on my oilier areas to draw out all the dirt and clogged pores, and usually use a deep cleansing mask or a hydrating mask on the remainder of my face. I use two different ones because I have two different skin types on my face. It is very rare that anyone has only one skin type on their face and so I recommend using more than one facemask in order to get the best results! I love how my skin looks and feels after using a facemask. My face feels so fresh and clean and really has a glow about it the next day!
